What Does CertiPUR-US Certified Mean — And Why Should You Care?

You’ve seen the CertiPUR-US® badge on mattress listings. But what does it actually
mean — and does it matter?
Short answer: yes. Here’s why.
What Is CertiPUR-US?
CertiPUR-US is an independent, non-profit certification program for polyurethane foam
used in mattresses and bedding. Foam that earns this certification has been tested by
accredited third-party labs and confirmed to be:

• Free of ozone depleters
• Free of PBDE flame retardants (linked to hormone disruption)
• Free of heavy metals like mercury, lead, and chromium
• Free of formaldehyde
• Low in VOC emissions (less than 0.5 ppm)
In plain terms: the foam inside your mattress has been verified not to off-gas harmful
chemicals into your bedroom air.
What CertiPUR-US Doesn’t Cover
It’s worth being clear: CertiPUR-US certifies the foam only. It doesn’t certify the entire
mattress, and it doesn’t address fiberglass or other fire barrier materials. That’s why at
Guestly Sleep, we pair CertiPUR-US certified foam with fiberglass-free construction —
because certification should cover the whole picture.
Why It’s Worth Prioritizing
You spend roughly a third of your life in bed. The air quality in your bedroom matters. A
CertiPUR-US certified mattress is a simple, verifiable way to reduce your exposure to
chemical off-gassing — especially important for children, people with allergies, or
anyone with respiratory sensitivities.
All Guestly Sleep mattresses use CertiPUR-US certified foam. It’s not a marketing
checkbox for us — it’s a baseline standard.
